loyalotter: (really really worried)

1st Gryffindor Note - [Text, then audio post]

[Have a really, REALLY shaky handwriting, as though whoever's writing this hurts quite a bit or is exceptionally scared... or hey, why not both. And there's an ink splotch on the top.]

.../looks like a diary. I can't tell.

[Another ink blot, but this one's apparently intentional.]

It's not like what Harry described Riddle's diary as being. I don't suppose it responds to voice commands. My hand hurts too much to write.

[Oh hey, it's swapped to voice here. Have a thumping sound and a soft 'oof.' She's fallen off the bed. And her voice next is really soft, as though she's not aware the thing is recording.]

My handbag. Bellatrix's wand. They're -

Gone.

[She's still quite a bit unsteady on her feet, so it takes a moment for her to get there, but soon she's pulling open the door.]

Ah, hello. I'm Hermione.

[She doesn't look particularly hurt for now, more unsteady than anything, but she winces a little as she stands.]
herotypical: (positive - peaceful - flower)

[action] - btw? what's your policy on fourth-walling?

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermoine's wince is mirrored by the new-comer, who is still holding her side even as she shuffles into the room.]

I'm Buffy--hi.

[action] - Have at, but don't expect her to believe it XD

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[She moves aside as best she can, shutting the door behind Buffy before moving to sit down in a nearby chair.]

You really didn't need to come all this way. You don't look to be having a good time of it, either.
herotypical: (Default)

[action] - roger that. xD It'd have to be a big reference for Buff to go all 4th wall, no worries.

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a light shrug in reply.] I'm not really too keen on the bed-rest, anyway.

[action] - haha cool XD

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
If only I had my handbag or a wand, I could fix both of us. I know a bunch of healing spells and my handbag has a couple of pastes in it. But it sounds like it'll be a job finding it here. [And have a weary sigh.]
herotypical: (neutral - surprised - !?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wait--spells? Magic? [Sure, she sounds incredulous--but only because you're pretty much speaking her language. Well, a dialect close to it. The spell stuff was really more of a Willow thing, but a girl takes what she can get.]

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes... But I don't have my wand, so I won't be much good magically. [She pauses for a moment and glances at the wall.] Well, I didn't even come with my wand. I had someone else's and it wasn't exactly working for me.
herotypical: (neutral - quippy conversation)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Wand, really? You can't just--y'know--speak the creepy Latin and burn a few smelly twigs?

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well we do have incantations and wand movements to go along with it, but we need the wand to actually cast anything.

[She points her finger at her journal, which is lying on a table nearby.]

Wingardium Leviosa! See? Nothing.
herotypical: (neutral - quippy conversation)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She certainly sees nothing. Buffy has a kind of blank stare going on because--really? Wands?]

Folks back home just stick with the chanting and the small house-fires. It's more about having the magics-mojo in you than any sorta stick you can have. At least, that's how it was explained to me. I'm sort of magic-illiterate.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Well now Hermione's looking a little thoughtful. Yes, she HAS considered this.] I think our wands are more of a focus. They don't actually provide the magic, but they channel it and strengthen it and help us control it. Up until we're eleven years of age, we can't always control our magic, but once we start training with wands, it's a bit easier to do.
herotypical: (negative - this is wrong)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Eleven? Isn't that a big young to be dabbling in the magics? Willow didn't even get all down and serious with her mojo until the end of high school.

[Still looking a little skeptical of this whole eleven year olds with wands thing.] Willow being a friend, of course. Not just some stranger. Though, some strangers have proven to be surprisingly juiced witches or wizards.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not where I'm from. We're given wands and told the laws regarding our kind at age eleven and then we're carted off to boarding school.

[Now she's kind of curious about your magic.]

What's your magic like?
herotypical: (positive - goofy - bite me)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Dangerous. Addictive. Sure, it can be a help but...sometimes? Just not worth the risk.

[She's shaking her head. Here is clearly not a big fan of magic.]

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yours is a lot less easily controlled, then? [Her head tilts slightly. She can understand not liking something that can't be dealt with easily.]
herotypical: (negative - skeptical)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Even the best can fall really far and really had. I've seen it happen. Not a pretty sight.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[She pauses and looks up at her companion with a searching gaze.]

I understand. We have several like that as well. But that's no reason to fear magic. There are plenty of other people who use it only to do some good in the world.

[Like herself as she so kindly told the old Minister for Magic not that long ago.]
herotypical: (neutral - surprised - !?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's the problem--your intentions might start out all hunky-dory, but what if it just keeps snowballing? Eventually you're using the whammies to get everything done. Talk about dependency.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Not all of us are like that.
herotypical: (neutral - confusion - up?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She makes a vague gesture with a free hand.] I didn't mean--no, sorry. Just...magic's really tricky back home. Even the good kind can be right on the cusp of terrifyingly dark. There are always, always consequences. Prices to be paid.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I see. Ours is relatively easy to tell the difference between normal magic and the Dark Arts. Dark Magic is usually frowned upon as you can almost always tell what's a Dark spell and what isn't.

[She pauses, but then the Ravenclaw in her just can't let the opportunity pass.]

What kind of consequences?
herotypical: (* having a talk)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Stuff back-fires easily--and then, there are the oh-so-fun demonic hitchhikers.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hold it, what...]

Demonic hitchhikers?
herotypical: (negative - tired - chin)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-03 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looks mildly uncomfortable about this one, and tries to deflect the explanation to make it look as though it could happen with just about any spell. Not simply a very specific and dark spell.]

Yeah, you cast a particularly trying whammy and whoosh a little wormy-demon thing comes along for the ride, starts possessing your friends. Not fun.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermione blinks in surprise.]

I don't suppose that would be very good, no. We don't really have anything like that.

[No, we just have Horcruxes, which are worse in her opinion. Oh wait, and Inferi. How could she forget those?]

We have something else but it's extremely Dark Magic.
