loyalotter: (really really worried)

1st Gryffindor Note - [Text, then audio post]

[Have a really, REALLY shaky handwriting, as though whoever's writing this hurts quite a bit or is exceptionally scared... or hey, why not both. And there's an ink splotch on the top.]

.../looks like a diary. I can't tell.

[Another ink blot, but this one's apparently intentional.]

It's not like what Harry described Riddle's diary as being. I don't suppose it responds to voice commands. My hand hurts too much to write.

[Oh hey, it's swapped to voice here. Have a thumping sound and a soft 'oof.' She's fallen off the bed. And her voice next is really soft, as though she's not aware the thing is recording.]

My handbag. Bellatrix's wand. They're -

Gone.

So what if it was started by a spell? But not by the person who is all fast and strong. By like, other people. A long time ago. And the spell that they cast lasted such a long time. Like, a really long time. Say, through generations?

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well the spell that was cast was magic, so the effect is magical and even if it's not exactly something your ancestors had by birth, you were still born with it. I would still consider that person magical, regardless of how they came about the magic.

It's kind of like my own heritage in a way. I'm Muggle-born, which means my parents don't have any magic in their blood and nowhere on our family tree was there magic until I was born.

Does that answer your question?

Do you ever miss the chance to be an ordinary girl?

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, magic is ordinary now. Being Muggle-born, I've always lived in both worlds, so either is 'normal.' I definitely prefer being able to use magic, though. It's saved my life more times than I care to count.

[And also caused immeasurable pain, as is evident in her expression now.]

I guess it helps that you guys have the whole...society thing, right? Rather than being on your own.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people believe only those who are pure-blood wizards deserve to live in my world. Mudbloods like me have no place according to them. People like that are the ones I'm fighting against. Even in a society, there's good and bad.

[She looks down as she remembers the conversation she'd had with Scrimgeour before she, Ron, and Harry left school months ago.]

Somebody once asked me if I wanted to work in in the Ministry of Magic, helping the wizarding government. I told him no, that I actually wanted to do some good in the world.

[And she looks back up with a kind of sorrowful smile.] Even governments meant to help can turn corrupt.

Sometimes, a different kind of justice can be much, much more just. The underground kind.

Not literally. I just mean--not the government, not the police. Some other sort of power.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
So a kind of secret organization meant to help those... with magical powers like what you described?
herotypical: (amused >> occasionally a goof-ball)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Or one to help those without magical powers against those that do and go too far.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's probably a good thing, though, isn't it? Sometimes you need extra protection, even when you think you're safe.

[Order of the Phoenix anyone?]
herotypical: (neutral - distracted - outside)

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. [She pauses, evaluating the girl before continuing. Oh well, she's already said so much. And then there was the whole deal with hoping to use her in future as a potential researcher. Best to be honest with the girl.]

That's sorta what I do, back home. Kind of.

That's very caring of you. Everyone needs someone to look out for them, even the house-elves and goblins. [Says the creator of S.P.E.W.]

Caring is one word you could use, I guess. [She doesn't seem convinced, though.]

What would you call it, then?
herotypical: (snark >> wow that was gross)

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Messy. Dangerous. But that's what you get when you deal mostly with vampires.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it would be. But if you're doing it to help someone, that makes it worth the risk, doesn't it? [It does for her anyway... and did even when she was being tortured.]
herotypical: (* having a talk)

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Two parts doing it to help people, one part it's my destiny.

Re: [action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Reminds her of Harry.] What more reason do you need? If you have to do it, even if it's more destiny over willpower, you still have the will to do it, to stop other innocent lives from being hurt.

Isn't that what it's all about?

[Oh hey, there's some emotion in her voice as she says this and it's kind of obvious by now that she's reaaally passionate about this.]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been ten years, and I'm still fighting the good fight. I think that's proof enough that I don't need any more of a reason. [But she smiles; clearly, she approves of Hermione's sparkiness.]

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[And that earns a smile.] Back home, my two best friends and I were trying to defeat the master of the Dark Arts, the most evil wizard ever to exist. We were... captured by his followers and I was tortured for information. Even with that, even knowing we could die ourselves, it's still worth it to try to save even one more life.
herotypical: (snark - you did what now?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's awfully hardcore of you. [Definitely impressed.]

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[If only Buffy knew exactly what magical torture entails.]

I didn't have a choice. But that's what I have to do when I return home. I have to help finish our mission.
herotypical: (snark - cute - oh really?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-09-04 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That reminds me how I don't really have a mission to go back home to--the last one had that last-big-fight feel too it.
