8th Gryffindor note [voice] / [action]

It seems as though people come and go a lot here. I noticed it a while back, but you don't think the people doing the going will be those you're close to or know well until... they disappear, too. It's too much to hope that things will remain relatively constant, isn't it?

Ron's gone... isn't he?

[Hermione's going to be sitting out in the middle of the ground with a bunch of mats and blankets. She's got a small fire going on a pile of rocks in front of her. It looks like it shouldn't be possible, but there's definitely a fire there. And it makes the air around it warm. So she's pretty toasty now. If you want to say hello, you can be toasty warm, too, as long as you sit down.]

((OOC: replies will likely be slow still, but I'm definitely more here than I have been |D;))

[Padfoot just keeps pouncing around and trying to get the otter to play.]

Well, if anyone were to figure it out, it'd probably be you. [No round-about compliment this time, just a flat-out one. What is wrong with you, boy. Also watching the Patronuses]

Padfoot got on very well with Prongs, too. It's kind of odd. Naming it I think makes it more personal, really.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[The otter stares at it like 'wtf you doin?' but then bounces away. This might end up in a game of chase. Good thing they're intangible mist beings.

Hermione blinks at the compliment. Well, that's a first.]
Thank you... I'm certainly going to try.

[And now she's watching, too.] I would imagine. I don't know what to call it, though. [If we're going with the pattern, she'd have to name it Lily or something with a flower name and that's just weird considering Draco's is the one named Padfoot.]
hisdarkmark: (I call this a puppydog face)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-04 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[jfkldsjlka hay DX Padfoot is going to follow right after the otter. Let the chase begin.]

Sure. I know you are. And you've got help or whatever, so...[He shrugs and just goes back to keeping an eye on Padfoot.]

I'm not sure either. Wonder what it would even respond to.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[dsfkhdfs what is this?! The otter scrambles off.]

[She smiles, though not directly at him so she doesn't scare him off. This whole getting along thing is really nice.]

I don't know. I could always just name it something... but I'd want it to mean something. I just don't know what yet. What names mean something to you?
hisdarkmark: (I have a few awkward moments)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-08 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[OTTER BUDDY WAIT FOR MEEEE. Padfoot's going to be a derp and follow right after.]

[Draco himself catches that smile out of the corner of his eye and...it's strange that it doesn't bother him at all. Congratulations, Hermione, you've managed to tame the dragon, even if just a little.]

Yeah...I know what you mean. [He pauses to think this over.] Personally, most things I have have overly-pretentious names, or they're named after constellations. For you though...it'd probably be something much more simple. Maybe in Latin, or French. I don't know. Like I said, Potter kind of named Padfoot and for some reason, he responds to nothing else.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[dfkhdfkjgf RUUUUUUUUUUUUUN. Otter's fleeeeeing, kicking up snow as she darts around the two humans on the ground.

[Hermione's proud that she could do that, especially as she's now laughing at the Patronus antics, holding her arms over her face for a moment. Hmm, time to ponder Latin phrases. Goodness knows she could probably translate Latin if she had to.]

Well, there is one phrase I like... it's rather a large name for an animal so small, but I could shorten it. Besides, it's the meaning that counts, right? [She doesn't even wait for an answer before addressing her otter, which is now scampering around the ground near them.] Lux Aeterna, Terri for short. It's a bit of a mouthful, but it means 'the Light Eternal.' Maybe remembering that will help me conjure quicker when I need to.
hisdarkmark: (I'm officially screwed)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-11 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Padfoot's kicking up even more snow as he's trying to pounce on the otter, not caring he's flinging snow onto the two humans.]

[Draco can't help but laugh a bit as well, though he quick stifles it. Silly Patronuses and silly good feelings and what the hell is going on here? Though he looks at her again curiously when she speaks.]

Light Eternal, huh? [Back to watching them play.] Terri...I think it suits it.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[The otter pauses just long enough at the repetition of her new name that Padfoot could probably catch and tackle her if he wants.

[Hermione nods as she watches, thoughtfully.]

Well, she is a Patronus, so she ought to be shining eternally, right? When the charm works, that is. [She frowns slightly, fingering her wand which is still in her hand.] And I didn't think she'd respond to Terna. Terra is the name of a friend of mine here, so that wouldn't work, and I have yet to meet someone names Terri. So... Terri it is.

[Annnnd GOTCHA. Padfoot's going to pounce on Terri before bouncing off again a short distance, crouched on the ground and waiting for a retaliation.]

I suppose that makes as much sense as Padfoot. More sense, really. So...Terri it is, indeed. I think she'll like it well enough.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[dsfkjds THAT WASN'T FAAAAIR! Have a giant snowspray as Terri FLAILS around as she's pounced. It's a good thing that fire's magic or it woulda been out a long time ago.]

Padfoot makes sense. I mean, he's got pads on his feet after all. [Not telling Draco why Harry chose that name. Oh hell no.] I hope so. She seemed to react to it just then, so maybe that's a start. [And she laughs at their antics a little.] I never knew a Patronus could be so much fun when it worked.
hisdarkmark: (I'm pretty sure this is a felix effect)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-11 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[TOTALLY FAIR. That's the only way Padfoot's like Draco, they both fight dirty. That poor fire though.]

That's about the only thing I can figure as well. And he likes it enough, responds to it. [Draco's just busy watching them.] I think they're kind of fascinating, especially since they're supposedly part of ourselves.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nooooooo, you jerk. Okay, fine, you want to play dirty? We'll just own you with our intelligence. Terri sinks to the ground again and sidles around the fire the other way.]

It's not a bad name. [She's still so amused by the name.] I like them for that. It's interesting figuring out how everyone's Patronus matches them. [she may have an idea about yours, Draco, but she's not entirely sure she wants to come out and say it. You might not like it.]
hisdarkmark: (I don't know what you mean)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[HEY. Where did you go D:? Padfoot's going to whine a little and stalk around the fire to find Terri.]

I suppose it's not. [Draco's seen that amused look on a few faces, but he has no clue why.] I figured out nearly everybody's connection to their Patronus but my own.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Waaaiting... waaaaaiting... aaaand POUNCE, over the fire and onto your back! Take that.]

Have you? So you've figured mine out, too? [She might be convinced to tell you...]
hisdarkmark: (I guess this isn't so bad)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a loud yelp from a very startled Padfoot, and Draco's actually going to laugh.] That's what you get, Padfoot. [Padfoot himself is wriggling out from under Terri...and pawing at her head again. YOU CAN'T WIN.]

Of course I have. I've done some reading and thinking about it.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermione lets out a laugh, too, grinning at the very, very proud look Terri's now got on her face as she finally lets Padfoot up and scampers off around the fire again.] They're terrible.

And you don't know yours? [At least she hasn't gone all 'I know something you don't know' on him.]
hisdarkmark: (I'm officially screwed)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Draco's still got a genuine smile on his face as he watches the two Patronuses chase each other around the fire.] But it's still rather entertaining.

I didn't exactly say that. I researched mine as well...I just don't agree with it.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They are. [Terri's going to dart around til she can squeeze herself between something and get an advantage over him. Gdit, Padfoot, you are not winning this!]

What don't you agree with?
hisdarkmark: (Default)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Following, followin-HEY TERRI THAT'S CHEATING. ...very clever. Padfoot's going to position himself right in front of her, whining and pawing at whatever Terri's stuck between. No fair.]

Everything, just about. So unless you've got some reasoning that I don't...

gdit now I have to look up coyotes just so Hermione can tl;dr at him XD I APOLOGISE

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[kekeke Terri's just going to look proud again... slide backwards aaaand LAUNCH. Hi there, Padfoot. That was almost typoed as Pdafoot.]

Well, let's think about it. [She's going to count off her points on her fingers.] They're a territory-oriented animal. They like to talk to other pack members. They're very vocal. They're one of the most adaptable animals in the world and will use just about anything to suit their needs. They have good senses and are rather evasive due to their secretive nature. It's a natural-born hunter, though it prefers to hunt alone, stalking and exhausting its prey before it attacks. And, as with Padfoot, they like attention, even if they aren't very social.

[She's not even going to give you a chance to interrupt. If you try, you're getting talked over. And that annoyingly superior teaching voice she has will become more and more apparent the longer she talks. Sorry, Draco. It's Hermione. At least she's not looking at you while she says all this, preferring to watch the crazy Patronuses instead.]

Now, if we take all that apart and compare it to you, I think you're being too hard on yourself. Being territorial, liking home, isn't a bad thing, but you're also very adaptable. Look at all you've done while you've been here. You've adapted better than a lot of us and you haven't had the support or the friendship other people had. I mean, we've got something now, you and I, but it took some time to develop. It wasn't there when I first arrived and you got here first, so you had to adapt to Luceti. Which you did. Brilliantly.

Furthermore, while you do have a Slytherin's willingness to mold anything to your own needs, this adds to your adaptability. You may be cunning rather than particularly clever, but I don't think it's a particularly bad thing. You're doing it to survive, not because you take particular joy in it.

You also are intelligent, and have good senses, like a coyote. It may help your evasive nature, and don't even try to tell me you aren't secretive, because you are. You're just like Harry, not letting anyone help you. But I think you need that attention, even if you don't know how to ask for it. You're just not used to not having it like we are. Of course, that secretiveness has helped you in the long run... to survive.

I don't think any of this makes you a bad person. I just don't think you were looking at the entire thing when you did your research. There are a lot of aspects to a person's personality. No one's easy to figure out.

hisdarkmark: (I never thought of it like that)

WELL HI THERE LONG RESPONSE.

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Padfoot's going to bark and just tumble back in the snow with Terri. At least thing one likes to play. Pfff I would have laughed.]

[Draco tries to interrupt her a few times, but unfortunately Hermione shares his tendency to run over the top of people, apparently. He frowns slightly as he listens to her, and even more-so as that tone shows up again. He had this figured out, of course. He discussed with this Potter. He just didn't want to admit to it. However, once Hermione's done talking...]

...okay so all of that may be true, but look at him. What do you make of the fact he's a playful puppy?

|D;b

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Terri scoots off again.]

You just don't have a good outlet for it. Think back to when we were young and only had classes to worry about every day. What did you like to do?
hisdarkmark: (I'm officially screwed)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Padfoot follows~]

...mm. [Draco thinks this over closely.] Pick on you three, mostly. [There's a slight grin because he knows there's more to it than that but he's being difficult.] And flying and being with people and...kid-stuff, obviously.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ruuuuuuuuuuuun, kicking up snow, too.]

[She smirks.]
Pranks, kid-stuff. You were more relaxed than that, playful even. You had fun... your own kind of fun, yes, but... What do you think Padfoot's doing? It's the same thing. You just haven't really had a chance to let it out in a few years. Sixth year was really rough... on all of us.

[She pauses for a second.] I think we've all forgotten how to have fun to an extent.
hisdarkmark: (I never realized how big the world is)

[personal profile] hisdarkmark 2009-12-12 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[More barking noises as Padfoot runs after Terri still, spraying the fire with snoooow.]

Yeah, exactly. [...huh. Okay, when you put it that way, that makes sense.] I see what you mean. You're right, sixth year...[He just allows himself to trail off and watch the Patronuses.]

We're not exactly in a position to have fun at home. Think that means...maybe he'll grow the more I start relaxing again?
