3rd Gryffindor Note - [voice]

[She sounds tired, interested in what she's doing, but very weary. Every so often, there's the rustle of a page, as though she's reading something. Knowing Hermione, she's in the library.]

These books are fascinating. I almost feel as though I'm back in my first school, studying for a test or something. Sciences, math, literature. Makes me miss the library at Hogwarts, not counting the librarian.

I wonder how everyone's doing...

[She sighs heavily. There's the scraping of a chair and then a thump later on, as though she's just set another book on the table.]

At least I have time to read now. Are there any other bookworms out here?

[She gives her head a little shake.] They said you were on holiday when we arrived, so you must have been at school the rest of the time.

...school. That's all?

[She shrugs again and picks at another blade of grass.] Like I said, I didn't exactly have contact with most of the wizarding world, so you might have been doing something else. But your mother mentioned that you were on Easter holiday when we arrived.

...what were the rest of the Death Eaters doing? Chasing you?

[She shrugs again.] A lot of them were in the Ministry. They took over, you know. Killed Scrimgeour. Set up a Muggle-born Registration Commission. They're pretty serious about this pureblood supremacy thing. Snape's headmaster at Hogwarts. [And she sneaks a glance at him to see how he takes that.]

[His eyes have widened a bit the longer she talks. That...no, that's not exactly good news. But he's not going to give her the satisfaction.] Is that so.

You can see why we didn't go back to school now, can't you? It would have been death to all of us.

Yeah. I can see that. So really everything's just one big mess.

One big mess I have to go back to straighten out. [No matter who stands in her way or what they do to her. Lookin' at you, Bellatrix.]

At least you have help.

It's fortunate I do. [Otherwise, it's likely she wouldn't have made it through the Manor... and her thoughts are probably evident on her face as she gazes at the water now.]

Apparently having some kind of support system or something is important in these things.

It certainly helps to know there are people you can rely on, people who rely on you.

[Just not going to say anything and fiddle with the fish in the water, though he'll nod to acknowledge he heard her]

[She sighs and tucks her knees up to her chin again.] Some days I miss those carefree years when we were younger, when all that mattered was who passed all the exams.

We're in a war, Granger. Nobody said it was going to be easy. [He's curled himself up into a similar position] But...you're right, I guess. It was easier back then.

I never said I expected it to be. [Oh Draco, if only you knew what she had to do to her parents alone just to go off with Harry. That was painful enough... Even if time doesn't stop at home, they still won't know she's missing... or care if they heard.] Easier, quieter. Maybe we don't have to bring the war here, too.

It's a bit unsettling, isn't it? Knowing that we have to go back to all of that. [Draco's just not looking forward to all of the things Hermione's told him, along with some of the unknown things.]

It was unsettling leaving it, but now that we've got this... quiet, it's almost unbearable to think of what we have to do when we get back. But I'm going to do it because I have to.

Typical Gryffindor. [But there's a somewhat grateful look on his face anyway] You're still alive, so it can't be impossible.

[She just kind of looks at him... sadly almost.] So are you, last I looked. At least we have that small comfort.

Right. I take great comfort in the fact that I'm still alive but being bullied into doing things I don't want in the first place. [It suddenly occurs to him that that's not what he meant to say at all and he briefly looks shocked that he let that slip]

[She looks a bit shocked but that quickly turns into something quite like concern and it's with great care when she speaks again.] What do you mean?

I don't mean anything, Granger. Forget it.

[She kind of gives him a look that says 'I don't believe you,' before glancing back at the water.] If you say so.
