8th Gryffindor note [voice] / [action]

It seems as though people come and go a lot here. I noticed it a while back, but you don't think the people doing the going will be those you're close to or know well until... they disappear, too. It's too much to hope that things will remain relatively constant, isn't it?

Ron's gone... isn't he?

[Hermione's going to be sitting out in the middle of the ground with a bunch of mats and blankets. She's got a small fire going on a pile of rocks in front of her. It looks like it shouldn't be possible, but there's definitely a fire there. And it makes the air around it warm. So she's pretty toasty now. If you want to say hello, you can be toasty warm, too, as long as you sit down.]

((OOC: replies will likely be slow still, but I'm definitely more here than I have been |D;))

[Voice] .... sorry, you're getting Hermione tl;dr >>a

Because our worlds are likely completely different. Magic isn't what makes a person who they are. One of my friends, someone I've looked up to for ages, is half-giant. Giants aren't... they're feared worse than nearly anything by the Wizarding Community, yet Hagrid is as harmless- er... mostly harmless. He just likes dangerous magical creatures. He has a good heart, though.

[She pauses just long enough to draw breath before continuing.] Several of my yearmates at my wizarding school are descended from Muggle families. Many are half-Muggle and half-wizard. Both of my parents are Muggles. They have no magic to speak of. None of my family does. But I have lots of magic. I'm a witch.

[She pauses again, but it's slightly longer this time and when she speaks again, her voice is soft.]

There's a war going on at home right now. A war between certain dark wizards called Death Eaters and Muggles. They don't believe Muggles should be allowed to exist, nor do they believe that anyone with Muggle parentage can have magic. I'm what they call a 'Mudblood,' which means someone with dirty blood, and we're hunted more than any other group of people in the world.

In spite of that, one of my best friends is a pureblood wizard and the other is a halfblood. Just because you're hunted by some people, doesn't mean others won't accept you for the person inside, not what blood you have.

[Voice] Oh Hermione XD

I... [Even thinking about this subject hurts, but it's not something that ever leaves his mind either.] That half-elf I told you about... I'm in love with him. It doesn't matter to me whether he's a half-elf or anything like that, he's one of the most amazing people I've ever met, and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it. Just because he's a half-elf and can use magic... that doesn't mean he's any different than me.

[Voice] |D;b you gotta expect it at some point with her

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[She understands. Really, she does.]

What else do you need but those feelings? Another of my friends, someone who's older than I am, is a very powerful witch, but she's a half-blood. Her mother is a pureblood, descended from very carefully chosen matches so that the entire line is pure... up until her marriage. She married a Muggle-born wizard and her entire family disowned her. I don't think she's seen them since. But what matters is that she married him because she loved him, not because her family expected it of her.
knightofratatosk: (I don't get it)

What happened to her after that? Did people treat her badly too?

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
No. She's settled in with the rest of Wizarding society and her daughter is one of the Ministry, our government's, top Aurors, or Dark Wizard catchers. Their family is well-known and respected.

Then... everyone accepted her. I wonder if people would be able to accept Richter too... if I ever see him again.

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they would. Those whose opinions truly matter are the ones who don't care about purity of blood or anything other than the deeds you perform and the goodness inside you.
knightofratatosk: (Curious)

[Voice]

[personal profile] knightofratatosk 2009-12-15 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
What about the rest of your world-- do they feel the same way too?

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[She hesitates.] The Ministry's policy has always been tolerance, but no government is completely safe. However, most witches and wizards co-exist happily with people who are different. Only the pureblood elitists really care, but those numbers are becoming increasingly small. [Especially when one converts them to the other side.]
knightofratatosk: (Sigh)

[Voice]

[personal profile] knightofratatosk 2009-12-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
... then maybe there is hope for my world too. But... I have to find a way to get back home first.

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
We're working on that. I believe... I believe there's always hope. [Silly Dumbledore and silly war and silly luceti affecting her.]
knightofratatosk: (Unsure)

[Voice]

[personal profile] knightofratatosk 2009-12-15 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...

[He used to believe that too, but then... well.]

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
...You don't sound convinced.

[You're talking to the girl who was tortured simply because she's Muggle-born. She understands.]
knightofratatosk: (Sad)

I've been here for almost a year and a half now.

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
We'll keep trying. I haven't given up on something yet.

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Never and it usually pays off. There's always something to be done, some new angle to use to find the answer.
knightofratatosk: (Downcast)

[Voice]

[personal profile] knightofratatosk 2009-12-15 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's quiet for a moment as he considers this. There are some people who have been here even longer than he has...]

[Voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
[She'll wait a little bit before replying.] I'd love to know the answer, and until we discover it, we have to keep vigilant. But that's no reason to give up.
knightofratatosk: (Sigh)

[Voice]

[personal profile] knightofratatosk 2009-12-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...

[He really wishes he could believe that.]
