16th Gryffindor Note [Written] / [Action for housemates plus Draco later]

[Written]
[Early morning: Hermione's sitting at the dining room table with her journal and her notebook. There are a couple of ink blots where she's tried to write, but her hand is shaking too much. Eventually, she manages to get out what she needed.]

For those who have been here for a while. I know this is probably a silly question, but I admit I'm curious. After someone returns from the Malnosso, about how long do the effects take to wear off and how bad can those effects be? Call it a study, if you will.

[Action for housemates plus Draco later]
[It's been days since Harry got back from his mallynapping and he's steadily gotten worse. She's watched him flip out about Voldemort one too many times not to know that something is desperately wrong now. His scar's been hurting like it did all fifth year, and nothing anyone has said has done anything to help him. And now, when she just went in to check on him, she's noticed that he's asleep in his bed. But he looks sick. Something is so not right.

And what do you do when all else fails? Call on the DA. So, she's going to knock on each of your doors as soon as she can tell you're all awake. She looks about as worried as Hermione gets.]

"We need to talk. All of us. Something's wrong with Harry."

[And then it's down to the next person. She'll be waiting for you all at the dining room table, which is right under Harry's room so she can tell if something changes with him. Terri the otter will be waiting in the living room for you guys to lead you all to her when you get there, but the Patronus is flickering, like Hermione's having a tough time keeping her there. The witch has her notebook and journal open and she's scanning the pages of each, desperately searching for an answer. Feel free to threadjack into one action thread.]

Hmmm, and what do we get for participating in this study?

That's kind of boring, isn't it?

I've noticed effects lasting up two weeks. They can be pretty awful, depending. I lost my sight and use of legs for a while; another time, I couldn't use my magic. Almost everyone I've seen return has been significantly worse for a time.

[Written]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But they do seem to get better, correct? They don't get worse.

[Written]

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually, yes. I haven't heard of anyone growing worse over time.

...did this happen to someone?

[Oh shoot, she should have locked it. There's another ink blotch.] Not as well as I'd like, no. I just wanted to know how long the effects would last.

[He probably would have been more irritated if she had locked it. There are a few splotches of ink as he taps on the page to think.] Depends. Hisoka healed up after a few days. As did you, didn't you?

The effects seem to last from a few days to about two weeks, depending on the person and situation.

[written]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[The two weeks part is definitely not what she wanted to hear.] They do wear off, don't they? They don't ever seem to get worse?

[When alerted to the possibility that Harry needed help, Neville all but races to the dining room meeting.] What's wrong with him?

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looks up and moves books so Neville can sit down.]

I don't know, but he's... he's napping or something. He's... everything's off. It's like fifth year all over again and I don't know. I need to wait for everyone else to get here.

[identity profile] nearlychosen.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Fifth year... So you think Death Eaters are trying something with him? [The plural on his accusation is mostly for Hermione's benefit. There's only one death eater he knows about within the confines of the building, unless Draco's been recruiting.]

The effects can be really strong, but it wears off in about two weeks most of the time.

[Though on rare occasion it's been permanent BUT :x]

Two weeks seems to be the most common answer. I suppose that's the best I can do with. Thank you.

No problem. It was a little longer than that for me once, but I think that was a fluke. Or maybe it depends what the effect is.

S'no problem. Hope your friend gets better quickly. Folks at the clinic might be able to help with some of the physical stuff if there's any, so you might want to consider that if you can get him there. Or have one of the clinic folks come to you.

It seems to be how the Malnosso like to give them back to us. We're doing what we can right now, but it seems to need more time than we'd like.
