[She sounds a bit nervous here.] Harry, it didn't work. I've tried everything I can think of, but the map's not coming along yet. But, Harry... Sirius' mirror... did it come with you to Luceti? Do you think it might be possible to charm one here? With your Mum out there, I think it might be a good idea to find a way to contact her or for her to contact us easily. I could make another paper for her, one that's charmed with three others, another for you, me, and Ron, just in case she needs to contact you.

I'm very glad the tutoring sessions seem to be working out for everyone. I hope all of the New Feathers are settling in well. If any of you, New or Old Feathers, need anything at all, information or someone to study with, I'd be happy to do what I can.

[She's out on the porch reading if anyone wants to interrupt]

[This time she gives him an approving nod.] He's one of the more dedicated students, even if he is a prat sometimes.

Oh then you two must be perfect for parenting. [Ron, stop screwing up the fact that you two aren't fighting.]

[She finally looks back over at him.] It wasn't my choice to work with him!

[Grumpy puppy is grumpy. And paying attention to his crackers again.]

Ron, I know it's strange, but it's just a project. It's not like I've started spending time with him or anything. [Not that it should matter to you who she's friends with.]

[Friends that are boys have the potential to be boyfriends. This is a concern to the Weasley.] Fine, it's just a project.

[Sigh... oh Ron. She sounds resigned when she replies, fixing him with an "I-don't-believe-you" look.]

...What's wrong.

[Waves his crackers a little at her.] You're friends with Malfoy, that's what's wrong! D'you've any idea the things he's said about you?

[She'd known that was coming at some point.] I'm not sure it's 'friends' necessarily, but we're on decent terms. And yes, I'm aware of what he's said at home about me, but that's not here.

No, I mean here, Hermione! I don't know what he's done to you, but I don't trust him. I'm not gonna tell you what you can and cannot think of him, but it's Malfoy! What the bloody hell would make you think he's a decent person? [We've graduated to italics abuse. Go Ronald go.]

Because since the second time we met here, he's shown me a different side of him, a person his parents haven't been able to touch. He's not as bad as he wants you to believe. He wasn't the one who killed Dumbledore, if you remember.

[She lets out a huff of air and sits back in the chair, arms folded across her chest now.]

Oh so he's just projecting things when he calls you names? When he hates my family for no reason other than the fact that we're not filthy rich like his? It's not that he didn't kill Dumbledore, Hermione, it's that he couldn't. Because he's a coward.

[By this time, Ron's probably standing and gesticulating with his sleeve of crackers. ...Which would be funny if they weren't shouting.]

[She stands at about the same time with this look of 'step away from the egg, Ronald.' She will be mad if you hurt that thing.]

No, it's more that he doesn't have his parents' influence here and other people may have had an impact on him. Look around you, Ron. The things that mattered at home don't matter here! Most of the population doesn't know what a "Mudblood" is or care. He's only called me that once and that was on my first day here.

[He's not even paying attention to the egg, yo. But probably best that she keep him from hitting it accidentally. Good job, 'Mione. In any case, he falters a bit.]

...the hell's he done to you, Hermione?

He hasn't done anything! [She's starting to sound as upset and defensive as when she argued with Harry a month ago.

...Her major fights apparently come in one month increments.]

Why can't you both accept that people change!

Because it's Malfoy! He doesn't just suddenly become a good person! [Lowers his voice considerably and adds as an afterthought.] ...although he's pretty convinced you're one.

He was here for a month before anyone else from our world was. Then I showed up. He seemed hostile at first, but over the course of the month I've been here, our talks became longer and more personal. He's different here.

[The last comment gets a slightly surprised look.] He's spoken to you about me?

[Scowls and looks away.] Guess there is something to be said that I can talk to the git without immediately wanting to hex him. But I still don't trust him. You can't just turn over a new leaf like that when you're Malfoy. It doesn't work that way.

... [Shrugs.]

[She can at least understand that and her expression softens.] At least give him a chance? I can't ask you to be nice to him if he isn't being nice to you, but if neither of you will give the other a chance, I won't be able to convince anybody.

[And a pointed look, but she won't press that. Privacy and all... Draco's actually been teaching her not to pry so much.]

[Huffs a bit.] I'll give him the time of day if he can act like a civil human being. [Which is saying a lot, really.]

[Shoves his hands in his pockets, crackers and all, and scuffs his shoe against the ground a bit. Awkward silence get.]

[That's all she's asking for, really, and she gives him a small smile.]

...Thank you, Ron.

[Totally not looking at her.] Yeah, yeah. Keep in mind that this depends entirely on him. I'm not the slimy Slytherin git.

I know... [She takes a breath like she wants to say something and then stops...]

... [Says something for her, then.] So there's nothing... I should know about? With you and Malfoy. [Awkward, Ronald. Awkward.]

[She blinks... Really should have expected that, but, well...] Why would there be? There's too much tension and oddities for that sort of thing. It's not... [Breathe.] No. I'd never entertain the notion.

[She does tilt her head at him, though, as if trying to decide what he's on about.]
