loyalotter: (because I'm brilliant that's why)

Voice;

[She sounds extremely professional at this point, very calm and sure of herself.]

As I already spend all of my free time in the library, I'd like to extend the offer to tutor anyone who goes to school and would like the extra help. It's no trouble at all to me and I actually enjoy it. I'm used to doing that sort of thing back home. All you need to do is tell me your name and if you'd like to do it over the journals or in person and I'll see about setting something up. I think tutoring and study groups are good things for young minds such as ours and it's a good way to pass the time that would otherwise be spent being bored or some such.

My name, for those who still don't know me, is Hermione Granger, and if you need me at all, I will likely be in the library.

[And then a little awed as she looks at the calendar and realises she's been here for a while.] Has it really been a month already?

They're very difficult to make and require specific cores and wood types. Each wand is different and will favour a different person. You could attempt to make a wand for someone, but there's no guarantee that wand will perform its best for that person. It's best to make a wand and then let it choose the person it wishes to align itself with.

So...they're like baby ducks.

[No, she really thinks this is logical.]
herotypical: (neutral - confusion - up?)

Ducklings. Y'know, like when they hatch and they think someone's their mom even when it's not because they've--][she forgets the word]--because they've somethinged. Are wands like that?

[voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermione supplies the word.] It's like that to an extent. Wands choose a person and can be given to other people if the original carrier dies or if the wandowner allows their wand to be handed over. If the wand decides not to give its alliance, it will be quite difficult to get it to do anything, even the most basic spells.

So...not really anything like a baby duck, then?

[Disappointed? A bit.]

[voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess some of them are cute like baby ducks.

[She's kind of amused here.]

Well, that's a little bit of consolation.

[voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. I can show you mine if you'd like, as we were discussing magic earlier.

Uhm, sure?

[No idea what to expect, really.]

[voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't have to. I just thought you might be interested since we were walking about it a few days ago.

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-10-03 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no--don't get me wrong. I'm totally interested. Just--should warn you? Magic isn't really my typical field. Well, not in the sense that you'd normally use.

[voice]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That's all right.

Shall I meet you somewhere, then?

All right! I will!

[It takes her just a little time to head on over, but soon enough, she's knocking on the door.]

[And the generally sparky blonde answers with a smile.]

Welcome to my sorta-humble abode. C'mon, make yourself at home.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Hermione smiles back as she steps inside.]

Thank you. It's really nice in here. I wonder if Harry would want to move into one of these with me.
herotypical: [ hug ; xander ] (✝ it'll help me)

[Buffy tucks the door closed behind the guest and leans one shoulder against the wood.]

Someone from your world, then? Glad to hear you're not--y'know--alone. Even if showing up here isn't always the bestest best thing ever to wish on a friend.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry's one of my best friends. It's nice to have someone else here with me, even if I'd rather he were home.

[She smiles sadly anyway before pulling out her wand.] But, I believe we were going to discuss magic again? It's still a little strange to be able to talk so freely about it like this, but I guess it hardly matters in a place like this.
herotypical: (snark - cute - oh really?)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-10-07 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Have a seat, Hermione. Buffy is certainly going to.]

Yeah, I started out keeping a lot of secrets, here. But it gets old fast--especially when it turns out everyone else is this or that important someone. Why bother?

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[She does and happily.]

It was the law back home that we weren't allowed to talk about magic to anyone who didn't have it or didn't already know about it. But here, they can't reach us anyway.

[She presents her wand now, though.] We spoke about a magical focus and using Latin spells. I can show you some of the harmless ones if you'd like.
herotypical: (* having a talk)

[action]

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-10-07 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods, giving her consent to go on. But not before she gets her two cents in.] Latin, jeez. Why do you think it's always Latin?

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-08 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs.] That's just what seems to trigger our magic.

[then, she points her wand at her mouth and clearly says the incantation for a Cheering Charm, which makes her mouth stretch into a rather large grin. She holds it for a moment before having to actually thing the counter as her mouth doesn't seem to want to cooperate. All she got from trying to talk was a bunch of laughter and jumbled noises.]

That was a rather strong Cheering Charm. Sometimes I think this place could do with a bunch of those.
herotypical: (positive - peaceful - shades)

[personal profile] herotypical 2009-10-09 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Laughter is infectious, didn't you hear? Buffy has to curtail her own giggles with bunched hand pressed against her mouth.]

That was magic? Definitely seems more in the does-good category than anything--y'know--evil.

[action]

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermione doesn't mind, but she sobers almost immediately at the mention of magical evil. Her voice is quiet now, but strong.]

You'd be surprised. Do you remember what I told you when I first arrived? About being tortured minutes earlier? There's a curse, magic, that did it. It makes your limbs twitch and muscles burn. It hurts... it hurts more than you can imagine.

[And even softer.] There are wizards who love that curse, that one and the Killing Curse, and it's those people who my friends and I have been fighting.
