[Have a really, REALLY shaky handwriting, as though whoever's writing this hurts quite a bit or is exceptionally scared... or hey, why not both. And there's an ink splotch on the top.]

.../looks like a diary. I can't tell.

[Another ink blot, but this one's apparently intentional.]

It's not like what Harry described Riddle's diary as being. I don't suppose it responds to voice commands. My hand hurts too much to write.

[Oh hey, it's swapped to voice here. Have a thumping sound and a soft 'oof.' She's fallen off the bed. And her voice next is really soft, as though she's not aware the thing is recording.]

Dumbledore told Harry not to tell anyone but me and Ron. I think it was to protect everyone. If You-Know-Who found out what we were after, no one else would be hurt, but with so few who knew, he couldn't possibly have found out.

[After a little bit of lip-chewing, she turns back around.]

I am going to believe that you aren't going to make a Horcrux or tell anyone else how.

[She's ignoring your question for the moment. This is just reeking of the Slughorn and Riddle encounter, or what Harry told her of it anyway.]

[Wow I totally meant he doesn't care, not she. Anyway, he continues staring but it's more from the corner of his eye versus straight on. He just shakes his head because seriously, they just went in a complete circle or something. Hadn't he just said this had nothing to do with whatever she was going through?]

In order to split your soul, you have to commit murder.

[...damn, that woman wasn't making things up.] So no matter what, if you commit murder even in defense, your soul is going to split.

I don't know if doing it in defence counts... [honestly, she doesn't think so, but wouldn't that depend on the circumstances?]

I suppose it depends on the situation. If you have no choice... if you're doing it to save your own life... or perhaps other lives around you...

All I know for certain is that if you have no remorse about the act, your soul will be split.

But if there's remorse, your soul will be saved. You won't lose part of it, defense or not.

So you, Potter, and Weasley must be searching for the Dark Lord's Horcruxes then. [Honestly, after the way she's been speaking and now her knowledge combined with the knowledge from ANI and what he knows from home? Deductive reasoning, Draco Malfoy's good at it.]

...let's say you split your soul then. Is there any other way to save it besides a Horcrux?

If you mean save the piece that has been broken from the rest from further harm, then no. I haven't heard of any other use for such a thing.

I want to know how you know if the soul's been broken.

I'm not certain... I've never actually met anyone who's had their soul torn. [She's wracking her brain, though, to try to come up with something that might be plausible.]

It sounded like, when it was explained to me, that when someone's soul is torn, they become less human and the more their soul is torn, the further from humanity they become. I don't know exactly what this might entail physically, but I believe it would leave you emotionally incapable of caring about things you do. If You-Know-Who is any indication, you lose the ability to love and care for people. You'll only care for your own goals and self. Of course, You-Know-Who might have been like that before he made a Horcrux, but the general theory is the same.

[Okay...so he really doesn't have to worry about it so long as he still cares about that woman he killed. He's not like the Dark Lord, he couldn't be.] Understandable. I think I get it. [Though it's quite obvious his mind's still working in overdrive]

[She kind of regards him for a moment, but doesn't push it for now.]
