loyalotter: (I'm probably going to object to that)

Voice / Action

[This part is muttered, as though she didn't really want it to be broadcast.] So... who's still missing a wand? I don't recognise this one.

I'm going to be wandering around the park today. Does anyone want to join me? It sounds like just the relaxation we all could use.

[It's been about a day since she found it but she hasn't told anyone about it yet. Currently, she's wandering the park with it, though it's tucked away in her handbag, wrapped up of course. She's not going to risk breaking a magical item like that. Feel free to stop her outside a ride or something. You might be able to convince her to go inside. She does, however, look a bit preoccupied.]

Well, then, what do you want to know about me that Harry hasn't told you yet? I'm sure you've already gotten the "Hermione is the class know-it-all" speech.

[She's not particularly upset about this.]

Well, he said it in a far more complimentary way than that, but yes.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't aware there was a more complimentary way.

...Oh, you knew Professor Slughorn, didn't you? [Seems like a random comment, but it's the easiest way to get into 'I'm the cleverest witch anyone's ever met' without actually... saying that.]

Know-it-all usually has an insulting connotation. Plenty of ways to say you're one of the smartest people without having that connotation.

Hm? Yes, I do. He's one of my favorite Professors.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been called it enough times.

He's very good and the Slug Club is decent enough for a social hour. [Minus the fiasco with Ron, but that's all been and done with so it's okay.] I did enjoy them for sixth year.

At least there's the saving grace in knowing people who say it are usually jealous.

Oh, they were quite fun. Some of the students had rather amazing stories.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
At the very least, they aren't the types to get the highest grades in the class. [And this means they aren't as good as she is. She takes great pride in her work.]

I wish I could say that about my group. I only really liked a handful of people in the room and I knew them quite well already.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-07 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely. And usually it's the prideful ones who don't like being shown up.

Well, I suppose it can't always be a good group. Hopefully at least some of the others made friends with people they usually don't.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course.

I don't know. It was difficult to tell, though I was very pleased to see that my friend Neville was invited. He doesn't normally get invited to things like this, even though he's one of the nicest people in our year.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Does sound odd that he doesn't.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well he's never been particularly outstanding at any classes aside from Herbology, so most of the teachers never paid much attention to him. [Not until the Ministry at the end of fifth year, but we're not mentioning that.] He's exceptional at Herbology and a great Gryffindor.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, plants are very important for Potions. I could see why Professor Slughorn would pay attention to him, even if others won't.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[right because it had nothing to do with his parents, which is something Lily doesn't need to know.] Of course. He's brilliant at Herbology.

I suppose it takes a certain person to recognise the talents of others.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[She tries to ignore Slughorn's opportunistic nature. He's quite pleasant enough to make up for it.]

Professor Slughorn was always good at that. It didn't even matter what house they were in.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[For the most part anyway.]

Or their blood status. It was a pleasant change, particularly in that year.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, Lily is an optimist.]

Talent lies in unexpected places. Even if it takes some people by surprise.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hermione appreciates it for sure.]

Very much so. It's nice to be part of something like that.

[identity profile] 7thyearlily.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Nods.] It is. Make unexpected friendships too.
