As I already spend all of my free time in the library, I'd like to extend the offer to tutor anyone who goes to school and would like the extra help. It's no trouble at all to me and I actually enjoy it. I'm used to doing that sort of thing back home. All you need to do is tell me your name and if you'd like to do it over the journals or in person and I'll see about setting something up. I think tutoring and study groups are good things for young minds such as ours and it's a good way to pass the time that would otherwise be spent being bored or some such.

My name, for those who still don't know me, is Hermione Granger, and if you need me at all, I will likely be in the library.

[And then a little awed as she looks at the calendar and realises she's been here for a while.] Has it really been a month already?

It's all right. [Smiling as she shifts the book again.] Do you spend a lot of time here?

A considerable amount, yes. It's an impressive collection.

And yourself?

I do. I really enjoy it. There's so much to learn, especially about other worlds.

[Wesley tilts his head, contemplating this.]

You're a wizard, yes? Is there multidimensional magic in your world?

I'm a witch, the female equivalent of a wizard. And no, not that I'm aware of. We have a form of time magic, but it's not the same as what Luceti seems to have.

Interesting. The same term means something entirely different in my world. Wizarding magic is vastly different from witchery, or sorcery, enchantment, illusionment, alchemy . . .

Time magic? What sort?

How so?

Time Turners, little devices that can turn back time. There's all sorts of rules with them, though, and you have to apply to receive one and go through all sorts of security measures with the Ministry before they'll consider giving you one. It's a commitment and you have to prove trustworthy.

They're entirely different branches of magic that stem from different sources and follow different rules; traditionally a student of magic picks one, and while others may be explored, the caster's primary form of magic will always be strongest. It's usually determined by personality and lineage.

Fascinating. You can actually manipulate events after they occur?

So the difference between Transfiguration and Charms, then, except ours is entirely whatever suits us and may or may not be related to anything tangible at all.

We're not allowed to change the future. That's one of the laws. Whatever happens, we have to let happen. That's why there's such a stringent process to get one.

[Wesley's mouth quirks at "Charms." A serious branch of magic that calls itself "Charms"?]

Who controls the Time Turners?

[He wouldn't say that if he knew what spells that branch comprised.]

The Ministry of Magic. It's our government.

[There might have to be a challenge. ^_^]

[There's a noticeable pause, frown, and look of incredulity.] Your government regulates your most powerful magic? That seems unsafe, to say the least.

Trust me. It's better that way. Keeping powerful things locked up and hidden under a library of laws and procedures is one of the few things they do right.

Though, I don't know if there are any that we have left in Britain. They were all smashed about two years ago.

I find it difficult to believe that any government made of politically minded people could resist the temptation to use those items for their own purposes, but you know your world better than I.

Any libraries of laws, or powerful things?

Our world is rather complicated and governed by rules and international organisations, so there's a lot more to it than just that sort of thinking.

I'm sure there's a large one in the Ministry itself, but it's not difficult to do a bit of research from books spread out throughout the wizarding world and find out all you ever needed to know about laws and policies. It's how I know as much as I do.

What I meant was, you said "there aren't many left in Britain." Any of what?

Oh of course. I meant Time Turners. There was an incident at the Ministry two years ago and their entire supply of Time Turners was destroyed.
