Hermione isn’t particularly strong in the physical sense, but she’s no pushover either, having on several occasions punched people (such as Draco Malfoy in third year and even Ron in Deathly Hallows). She’s better at magic by far, though when she really gets worked up about something, she won’t hesitate to let her fists fly if she’s unable to grab her wand. Her body is extremely durable, though, as she has always bounced back from every physical injury received, no matter how strong it was. Even when she was nearly killed in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, she made a full recovery.

Many people consider Hermione a genius. She learns every piece of magic before everyone else, always has, and has even shown an aptitude for creating spells herself, such as the jinx she placed on the DA paper in fifth year. This one resulted in the nasty appearance of pimples in the form of the word “SNEAK” on Marietta Edgecomb’s face. Hermione was also able to cast spells well above her level, having cast a successful Protean Charm (which is usually reserved for sixth or seventh year) in her fifth year. She is an accomplished dueler, able to use her wide knowledge of spells to her advantage. Her best spells are Charms, which she has an ability to cast even if she’s only read about the theory (shown by her successful attempts at Memory Charms when it mattered most). She’s also a skilled potioneer, able to brew a difficult Polyjuice Potion (with instructions in a book located in the Restricted Section of the school’s library) by her second year.

Hermione also has an incredible amount of logic, which means she’s able to reason her way out of anything, which she does in her first year with the potions under Fluffy’s trapdoor and again and again throughout her time in the wizarding world. She’s not afraid to be upfront about things, especially when she’s worried, and her determination makes her a formidable opponent.

Weaknesses: Perhaps Hermione’s biggest weakness is her fear of being wrong and failing her classes. Her boggart has always been Professor McGonagall telling her she failed all her classes, and this inability to cope with that fear caused her to not receive highest marks on her Defence Against the Dark Arts exam in her third year. In fact, the only spell Hermione ever had difficulty with was the Patronus Charm, which she did eventually master and said she was practicing to learn the Patronus messenger. When it really came down to it, though, she was always shaky with the Charm and usually had to be coached when she really needed to cast it.

Hermione doesn’t break or anger easily, but if her friends are threatened or in trouble, this can lead her to being rasher than she normally would be, particularly if Ron is involved. She would never turn her back on them, but would do anything for them, which might be able to be used against her. Her intense focus on logic makes her rather stubborn and it’s difficult to convince her of anything without solid proof (such as the existence of the Deathly Hallows). She can also come off as bossy and abrasive, though this is due to her need to prove herself as well as a desire to keep her friends safe. At times, though she’s good with emotions, she often lacks tact and this has come back to bite her.
